The Canadian Stock Market outlook for Monday June 6 2016 was for the TSX Composite Index to close higher.

By the end of the day the TSX Composite Index was up 0.35%.

TSX Composite Index Rises 49.38 Points

Over the past two trading days the Canadian Stock Market has moved up 139 points. Intraday today the index was up at 14,297, within 3 points of breaking through 14,300.

TSX Composite Index Chart – 12 Months

Looking at the 12 month chart the TSX Composite Index has now recovered to levels last seen in August 2015, 10 months early. The TSX lost almost 20% of its value from August 2015 to January 2016. Since January though, the TSX has recovered 2745 points for a gain of almost 20%. This places the TSX Composite Index back in a bull market.

The commodities sector was the hardest hit with the rising US dollar pummeling resource based stocks. That has changed as the US dollar loses ground and commodity prices, in particular oil and now gold, rebound.
