AAPL, MSFT, GOOGL, or NVDA
oz8888ParticipantLooking for ideas on how to fix this big loss. I want to reduce the loss that I already have incurred without putting on more risk…not quite sure how this would work because CC aren’t paying much. I Earned around $20/contract for the puts when the AMZN split occurred, and getting assigned at 130 with the stock around $84 makes the loss around $2600/contract. Covered calls at $3/month for 7 months would be close.

I am trying to build a small portfolio of stocks to hold for the longer term into retirement (dividends help) and was wondering if you have some kind of list of stock that you accumulate for the long haul? I started a while back with AAPL, MSFT, and MCD but with all the new tickers, I was wondering if you have a few favorites that you think would be good for that longer term
horizon. Thank you.
Lisaoz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
On the short put, if I got $2 and the trade goes against me so I want to get out at $4 to cut my losses, is it just a stop limit at $4? Or, will they just close the trade when they see it if the trade is going well as planned it could be worth $1, but since I have $4, they just take the $4? I understand how a stop limit works for stock, but just not real sure about a short put contract? Thank you.Lisa
oz8888ParticipantThank you.
oz8888ParticipantThank you Teddi! I’ll keep an eye out for your writeup!
oz8888ParticipantThank you Teddi! Great idea on how to get the most profit out of this trade!
oz8888ParticipantI can’t open the link also.
oz8888ParticipantThankyou Teddi. Yes I did roll several of my covered calls up and out, unfortunately, some are still ITM after the roll.
oz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
I personally like the Twitter feed, especially since I now have notifications when you post. I prefer Twitter over FB given all the breaches that FB has had. Thanks for all you do.
Lisa
oz8888ParticipantI have the Jan 2020 57.5 put that was rolled out and down from Jan 25, 2019. My trade price is $17.84 and it’s still ITM – to close, it would cost me $19.15 as of Friday’s close. I have already closed 3 contracts out at about $2,000 loss on each. Earnings is on July 25th and it doesn’t look very good.
oz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
Any further insight into WDC? Outlook doesn’t look well with this stock so I’m debating about closing out this trade for a loss. ThanksLisa
oz8888ParticipantThanks Teddi for all your suggestions with this trade. I’m slowly learning what I can do when a trade goes against you, so your suggestions I can use for other trades that I have. Thanks again for all that you do!
oz8888ParticipantThanks Teddi. When I rolled the position, I took a partial loss in the trade, just so that I could roll out. My commissions with TOS are only 35 cents a contract. I think it’s one of the better commissions around. I appreciate the write up on what to do with the 100 shares that I got assigned a while ago.
Lisa
oz8888ParticipantI closed out the position today, and I think I got the low of the day.
oz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
Thank you for the help with this trade. Here are the specifics that you requested:
12/31/2018 Sold to open 1 Jan 4 2019 65 call @ .41
1/3/2019 Bought to close 1 Jan 4 2019 65c @ 19.40 CELG gapped up on the open
1/3/2019 Sold to open 1 July 2019 75call @ 13.30 (took a $610 loss)I did not and do not have a long call against this trade. I currently have 100 shares of CELG that were assigned at $125 over a year ago. My commision costs are .35/contract.
All your ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

oz8888ParticipantRE: I think you are referencing this trade on the December non-farm payroll numbers done Jan 3. https://www.fullyinformed.com/members/spy-etf-trade-alert-ahead-of-december-non-farm-payroll-numbers-jan-3-2018/
Hi Teddi
I’m still trying to figure out when and how you got out of the above trade. On Jan 4, you said that “Sorry Lisa
I missed this. Usually I take my time scaling out. I sold a small number of the call side today.”I’m trying to figure out ifyou closed both of the call legs together or did you just close the call you bought or the call you sold?
Thank you.
oz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
Any updates to this trade?Lisa
oz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
I still have the SPY trade that you did the other day and then said that you sold a “small number of the call side”. Can you tell me if you closed out the call side entirely or just closed the call that you purchased or sold? As these were verticals, did you close both legs at the same time or just one side of the call? I would really like to understand how you do this trade. Thank you.
Lisaoz8888ParticipantHi Teddi
On the call side, did you just sell the calls you sold or the calls you bought or sold them together as a vertical? Thank you . Just trying to understand the trade better.
