Thanks Dennis for the quick response. Is there a trigger that is used to enter a trade? Is it a particular date within the month, or rate of return you’d like, or? Thx – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantDennis,
It looks like you’ve been successful at this strategy.
What intrigues me most is the use of IWM. Have those trades been as successful and are you using the exact same strategy for them too? Also, I’m wondering what the underlying quote for SPY, $SPX, IWM was at the time of the trades. I keep this information for all trades for historical reference.
Thx – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantHi Teddi,
Not sure I explained this very well…
One of the tasks I do every morning is print the entire Tomorrow’s Trade article. In it, most of the time, is the analysis graphics from the Put Analysis Tool. I’m asking that this graphic be eliminated from the article and instead, provide a link to the Tool web page. I don’t wish to print the graphic from the Tool web page. It’s good enough as a graphic on my laptop. Markmarkmandel109ParticipantTry “refreshing” that specific web page. I’ve experienced the same issue and after refreshing the page it all works. Mark
markmandel109ParticipantTeddi,
A quick follow up on my attempt to do this strategy yesterday with $TGT. Because the stock fell below the strike price ($82), I closed out the trade. It cost approx $87 to learn the lesson that you pointed out, not selling the call deep enough out of the money.
In the articles for this strategy, it recommends to paper trade before applying any capital. I can’t see how to paper trade if you don’t know if the stock was assigned or not.

markmandel109ParticipantHi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. The VIX has been interesting to watch this year, for sure.
I’m showing two SPX Nov 16th strikes (AM or PM settled). Do you have a preference, or am I looking at the wrong symbol?
Thanks – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantRolled the Aug17 $49 to Sept21 $49 for a small net gain and reduced the contracts from 5 to 4. Thanks for the ideas Teddi – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantHi Tom,
Just curious if you’ve been trading the SPX spreads recently? And, if so how far out in time are you going.
Thanks – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantWe have many ways to communicate, Yahoo, Twitter, email, and this forum.
Adding more communication vehicles increases the complexity in which to monitor trades/ideas. Decide on industry best of breed and stay with it, until the next best of breed can replace it. 2centrant
markmandel109ParticipantAmy, not being a nit-picker, but shouldn’t that strike read $250 and not $150? Mark
markmandel109ParticipantGood idea Teddi. I’m working on risk tolerance and what stocks I wouldn’t mind being assigned. It’s worked so far for the few stocks that don’t tank.
markmandel109ParticipantWas wondering how $AAPL was going to turn out. Funny, you trade a tad bit higher than Teddi, I trade a tad bit lower. But, am trying to get more nerve to get closer to her trades, lol!
markmandel109ParticipantAmy, you like close shaves! Good luck with that AAPL!
markmandel109ParticipantAmy & Teddi,
LUV is experiencing a downfall in reservations do to the recent engine failure and death. If oil goes back up to $70, then it will feel that pain as well. JMHO. I’m looking at selling $55 calls, not sure what strike date yet.
Mark
markmandel109ParticipantTeddi,
Per today’s Visa article, if you plan on selling the stock at $135, why not sell covered calls on the existing shares?
Mark
markmandel109Participant$KHC dropped enuff today to get the Jan 18 2019 $52.50 for $2.60, as mentioned in the Fri, May 4 article. It pays to keep these stocks in a watch list, or the articles handy. Thx Teddi – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantThanks Amy, unlike DFEN, XAR was intriguing because it didn’t include $BA.
markmandel109Participant“BATS”?
markmandel109ParticipantXAR was entered and here are the results…
Analysis Results
On April 6th (2018) the closing price for SPDR S&P Aerospace & Defense was $86.50. The security opened down, and fell 2.36%.The security is currently in an uptrend.
Teddi’s Tips
Since this security has no options available, the analysis from this tool is not valuable. Please select a different security that has options available to use with this tool.XAR does have options and the ratings section shows the different strikes/percentages.
Also attempted was IGV & KCE. Hopefully these will be added early this next week.
markmandel109ParticipantHi Teddi,
Thanks for the upgrade to compare past corrections.
Every once in a while I get a stock idea and want to see what the Tool yields only to find out the stock is not in the database. I’d like to see all of the S&P 500 stocks available in the tool along with any ETF (it must consist of S&P 500 stocks) that make options available.
Thanks for any considerations – Mark
markmandel109ParticipantSada & Teddi,
A real time chat room is a nice way to post and collaborate. I’m currently using Slack.com with another small group of traders. We are using the free version and it’s working well.
Mark
markmandel109ParticipantFrom what I understand, it’s a random process. However, the further ITM, the higher the chances of being assigned – info from Schwab. I rolled Feb16 $87.5 and $85 out to July $85 and $82.5 respectively and made a small profit yesterday. Guess I got lucky.
markmandel109ParticipantTom,
Schwab doesn’t allow a trade to be long and short the same option. How were you able to STO (short) the Apr30 $2100 in the first transaction, then BTO (long) the Apr30 $2100 in the second transaction? Mark
markmandel109ParticipantMakes total sense. Just did a quick calculation, even though there is an established $SPX top, the Calls are not worth the risk.
markmandel109ParticipantTom, thanks for the quick reply. Hmmmm just noticed your change from SPY to SPX. Any reason for that other than no early assignment & tax treatment? Mark
