When I started the market direction portfolio trades in 2013 I was not sure how well the portfolio would perform. I certainly can see now that it can indeed do well. Up 104% with the final trade on December 30, the portfolio basically doubled in value. This shows the strength of the Ultra Pro ETF products when they are timed properly for entry and exit positions. Exiting is based on stop-losses that are adjusted throughout the trade. Whereas some investors prefer trailing stops, I prefer adjusting my stop manually. Once a trade is well underway and my position is already profitable, I adjust the stop-loss after the close each day as I try to insure I get as much of the movement, up or down, as possible without getting stopped out early.
With 2014 now behind us, I have learned a great deal about using the Ultra Pro ETFs in the market direction portfolio. Here are some of the more important elements I have learned.
