Aflac Stock entered my USA Portfolio in January 2013. Since then every year Aflac has returned double-digit gains. 2013 remains the best year with a return of 33.34% against capital that was used and $20,284.00 in income. 2014 came close to 2013 with $19,326.00 in earnings but a return of 15.7% or less than half of 2013’s gain.
Aflac Stock 2015 Returns and Income
2015 though came close to 2013 with a gain of 26.3% but as I used less capital throughout the year I earned $16,436.75 which was less than the two prior years of trading Aflac Stock.
Aflac Stock Comparison
If an investor had managed to pick up the stock at its three-year low on Feb 11 2013 for $48.17 and sold it at the high this year of $66.23 on Nov 16 and earned all the dividends during this time period he would have earned $22.56 on his investment for a return of 46.8%, not bad at all. It would though have required nimble trading to pick it up at the 3 year low and sell it this year at its high. If instead an investor had bought the stock in May or June of 2013 that return is far smaller at 25% to 28% depending on when the stock was bought.
Over the same three-year period I have earned a total of $56,046.75. The largest amount of capital invested at any one time in Aflac Stock was $120,000 from a trade started in June 2014. On average most of the trades had at risk $62,500 or less. Many trades risked $30,000 or less. Even taking into account the $120,000 capital trade my return is at 46.7% which is almost identical to buying the stock at its lowest point over the past 3 years and selling it at the highest price this year.
Using Options Remains Superior
The trades for 2015 show that the use of options remains superior in many ways to simply buying and holding stock even over long period of time. The advantage to options is having capital at risked for shorter periods and being able to pick and choose valuations that make sense, particularly during periods of sell-offs. The use of options with stock also show that that income is continually being earned and cashed out of the trade repeatedly, whereas buying and holding stock means capital is tied to a trade until it is eventually sold.
Aflac Stock Trades Update for 2015
This final trade table for 2015 is interesting to review. Trades worth studying include the conclusion of the June 2014 trade in March 2015 as it shows how repair strategies can be applied and implemented to keep a trade profitable even during large declines.
The trade of August 27 shows how to manage a Bollinger Bands Strategy Trade to a successful conclusion and when to know to get out of the trade. One such similar trade was May 26 2015.
The May 8 trade is interesting as it was a Super Charge Buy-Write Strategy trade which ended in just 5 days after being setup. The return annualized was 80% and shows the strength of this strategy in Aflac Stock.
